The Arka Foundation encourages participation by guests in community service work. Visitors to the local schools are always welcomed as they provide inspirational encouragement to the children for their progress in school and personal growth.

Raha Mirian of Canada took up this opportunity during a visit to Mysore from 11th to 18th February 2008. Raha has a BSc (Hon) in Psychology and is a qualified interpreter with an excellent command of the English and Farsi languages. She has an exceptional ability to connect to people of various backgrounds and perspectives, superb interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, having worked professionally as a senior associate, independent teaching Instructor and a Laboratory Research Assistant.

She is involved in various volunteer activities at organisations such as the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) inpatient General Psychiatric Ward and the Centre for Conscious Awareness offering Dhyana Meditation and mindfulness practices.

Raha’s presentations were translated to the local Kannada language which helped students understand and learn better.

Day one saw Raha visiting the Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan (BVB) Middle School where about ten students who needed special attention in education were selected and given informative talks on Basic English, Hygiene and Srinivas Arka’s teachings, including Arka Dhyana.

At the end of the session, there were responses from the students that they were inspired, learnt good things about hygiene, enjoyed meditation tips and wanted to be visited more regularly. They also felt more confident and happy learning about the work of Arka Foundation. The students were given Instrument boxes from Arka Foundation.

Day two involved a visit to the Government Middle School in Kanniyana Hundi where about 70 students gathered to learn about the importance of healthy living. The basics for good physical health such as regular exercise, nutritious diet and getting enough rest, etc were highlighted.

Day three involved a visit to the Doddamaregowdanahalli government school where over 70 students were taught Basic English, hygiene, Arka Dhyana and the importance of following their culture.
